Leptopril

Leptopril® is a dietary supplement that promises to burn fat and promote weight loss. The manufacturer, Generix Labs, states that Leptopril is the same product as the weight loss supplement, Leptoprin®. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a complaint against  the manufacturer of Leptoprin®. The manufacturer, Klein-Becker (AKA Generix Labs), has been charged with  deceptive advertising, unsubstantiated fat and weight loss claims, and false clinical testing claims.

"Dramatic, unsubstantiated weight and fat loss claims continue to tempt the overweight with new hope for a quick fix," states Howard Beales, Director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection, in a news release. "It's particularly disturbing, however, when marketers peddle such pills and potions for children without adequate substantiation."

Leptopril® contains nutrients such as ephedrine, caffeine, and aspirin. Research has shown that ephedrine has dangerous side effects. "People who have hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart or prostate trouble, who are sensitive to stimulants or acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), or who are currently taking aspirin, MAO inhibitors, or stimulant-based supplements, should not take Leptopril," states the manufacturer.  "If you have any doubts about whether you should take Leptopril, consult your health-care professional."
